Tecnofreight’s first priority is to ensure safe transport of goods, and for this reason it is essential for us to protect the cargo against all kinds of risks.
We have listed below some tips to follow when making international shipments.
- Always take out insurance for the cargo to be sent or received. If you do not have your own cover, ask Tecnofreight to insure the shipment on your behalf.
- Do not forget that the load must always be insured before transport begins.
- Do not forget that all risks insurance does not cover all risks.
In the event of damage arising, make sure to:
- Write ‘with reserve’ on the transport document, which must also be signed by the carrier and/or stevedore or customs authority upon delivery of the goods if the damage is obvious, or within three days if there is a hidden loss and/or damage;
- Invoke the responsibility all of those involved in the shipment by sending them a registered letter;
- Do not deduct the compensation from the freight and/or fees payable to the courier or freight forwarder;
- Inform the insurance company as stipulated in the policy conditions;
- Invite each party involved in the transport to survey the damaged cargo, agreeing an appointment on the day when the cargo/equipment will be available for inspection. If you do not have a surveyor (claims adjuster), ask the local LLOYDS agent to carry out the survey.
Important: the insured party, the recipient or other interested party are obliged to keep the insurer’s recourse open against those responsible for the loss and/or damage and to take action before the expiry of the legally stipulated limitation period.
Documents required by the insurance company:
- Surveyor’s report;
- Insurance policy or certificate of insurance (original copy duly approved/signed);
- Bill of Lading (in air transport: Air Bill of Lading);
- Loading report;
- Shipping instructions;
- Copy of the letter of request for compensation sent to the courier’s agent;
- Original reply to the letter of request for compensation;
- Copies of the letters in which you hold the courier responsible;
- Commercial invoice (the insurer will not pay out a sum greater than the actual damage incurred);
- Packing List (including Weight List);

- Any other documents concerning the loss and/or damage that may facilitate the adjustment of the compensation.
