Truck circulation in Italy in 2025: what’s new

14/02/2025

The MIT (The Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport) has released an official communication with the timetable and new rules for truck circulation in 2025. As every year, it is about when the heaviest trucks (over 7.5 tons) will not be allowed to move along suburban roads, so as not to increase the traffic risk on the roads during the busiest periods.

Among the main changes, especially the summer period. The times of the bans have been revised, with a focus on weekends in July and August, when thousands of Italians will be traveling for the vacations. In some cases restrictions will start earlier or last longer.

Consideration has also been given to the various “bridges,” or those holidays that fall near weekends and are numerous in 2025. In these cases, traffic stops will be organized in more detail to avoid queues forming before or after these periods.

There is no shortage of exceptions. Trucks carrying fresh food or medicine can travel freely, as can emergency vehicles or those that need to intervene for security reasons. International transports can also travel in peace, subject, however, to specific authorization.
